ShareInvestor.com is long overdue for a technology refresh. We are revamping the entire website so that we can provide all our subscribers with the best experience possible. This will also set up a strong foundation for us to introduce new features and functionality into the website in future.

A key goal in this revamp is to improve the overall user interface and user experience.

• The navigation should be intuitive to users so that they spend lesser time trying to find the information they need.

In addition, the way people are consuming data has changed. Instead of just words, some contents are more easily explained through visualisation. We have introduced more data visualisation to make it easier for subscribers to understand the complex financial data and we will continue to do so in future.

There is a major change to the portfolio management system. We have decided to make a clear distinction between a Watchlist and a Portfolio. In the past your Portfolio serves as your watchlist, since you can add counters to your Portfolio. However this limits what we can present in tracking your portfolio performance.

In the new Portfolio, only counters with transactions can be added. We have also added a “Cash” component in the Portfolio. As you add your past transactions into the Portfolio, one clear benefit that you will see is the ability of the system to track your ROI, historical performance and money allocation accurately.

Lastly, under the hood, we are adopting some of the latest web technologies. This will lay a strong foundation for future enhancements and improvements.

This revamp will be undertaken in multiple phases and the public preview is just the first phase. In Phase 2 and beyond, we have already planned to add more exciting features to the website. Stay tuned!

We are planning to make available the public preview until July 2024. During this period we will be listening to all of you and will continue to rapidly enhance the website based on your feedback and suggestions.

If you still prefer to use the current website, it will be available at https://classic.shareinvestor.com for a limited amount of time after the official launch of the new website. This will give all of you time to familiarise yourself with the new website.

The current website is feature-centric - you first navigate to the section of the website containing what you need (example going to Fundamentals -> Financials to see the financials of a company), and then search for the company on that page. If you want to see something else, you have to go to a different section of the website. The downside to this approach is you might miss out on other related information about the company.

We have now adopted a company-centric approach instead. Right from the homepage, you search for the company you are interested in. From there, all the information about the company will be shown as different tabs within the same page. This is a much more natural way of looking for information.

We want to make a clear distinction between a Watchlist and a Portfolio. A Watchlist will contain counters that you are monitoring, while a Portfolio should only be used when you have transactions to monitor.

The reason behind this distinction is because we have added many new features to help you assess the health of your portfolio. You can track your ROI, automatically have our system calculate your dividends, visualise your portfolio performance over time, check your sector/industry allocations and more. All this requires us to split up the counters you have invested in, and counters which you are just monitoring.

The new Portfolio system will give you the choice to create either a moden portfolio or a classic portfolio. A modern portfolio means only transactions can be added. A classic portfolio will allow you to add a counter without a corresponding transaction. This is in line with the old behavior.

All functionality of classic portfolios will be supported.

We strongly recommend all subscribers to distinguish between a watchlist and a portfolio. This will allow you to more accurately track your portfolio performance.

No. New modern portfolios will not be available in the existing website.

Some brokers offer limited information like stock prices free. However the brokers model to provide free data is to encourage trading and they earn from their commission. It may not be viable for the brokers to continually enhance their free financial information because that is not their focus or strength. Some of the brokers in Singapore have choosen ShareInvestor as their technology partner and outsource their financial information provision to us.

No. We have used our expertise in realtime streaming on ShareInvestor Station and have brought this to the browser. As we are deploying a real streaming technology, only changes will be pushed to you. In addition, all of the user interface elements(color changing/flashing) are done on your browser directly and not streamed. Hence the total bandwidth used will be low.
